Privacy Policy

1. Who this policy covers

This policy explains how the ShadeTracker iPhone app and this website handle information. ShadeTracker is developed and operated by an independent developer ("we", "us"). If anything here is unclear, write to us at sermindemirbas@hotmail.com.

2. What the app stores on your device

• Saved places — the points you name yourself, together with the address resolved for them.
• Your drawings — the shapes and heights you add with the shadow calculator.
• Preferences — shadow colour and opacity, map mode, which layers are on.

All of it is stored locally. We have no copy of it, and deleting the app deletes it.

3. Location

The app asks for location access so it can show where you are, tell you whether you are in sun or shade, and use the correct sun position and UV value for that spot. Location is processed on your device.

You can refuse the permission. The app still works — it simply opens on a default city and you search or pan to wherever you want to look.

4. What leaves your device

ShadeTracker is an online map. To draw the map and answer your question, the app requests data from third-party providers, and those requests necessarily include the coordinates of the area you are looking at:

• Map imagery and building data — tiles and footprints for the area currently on screen.
• Terrain, surface and tree canopy data — height models for the area on screen.
• Search and address lookup — the text you type, or the coordinates of a point, sent to a geocoding provider so it can return a name or an address.
• UV index — the coordinates of the point you are looking at, sent to a UV data provider.

These requests are about a location on the map, not about you: they carry no account, no name and no identifier we have assigned to you. Each provider handles the request under its own privacy policy; the full list of providers is shown inside the app under data attributions.

5. What we do not collect

We do not ask for your name, email address, phone number or date of birth. We do not have accounts, so there is nothing to log in to and no profile to build. We do not track you across other apps or websites, we do not run advertising, and we do not sell or share personal data with data brokers.

6. Diagnostics from Apple

If you have turned on Share With App Developers in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Analytics & Improvements, Apple may provide us with aggregated crash logs and usage statistics. Apple controls what is included; the reports are not linked to your identity, and you can switch this off in iOS at any time.

7. This website

This site uses privacy-friendly, aggregate analytics (page views, referrer, country, campaign parameters in the URL) to understand which pages people find useful. There are no advertising cookies and no cross-site tracking. If you email us, we keep that email so we can reply to it.

8. Children

ShadeTracker is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.

9. Your rights

Depending on where you live — for example under the GDPR in the EU/UK, KVKK in Türkiye, or the CCPA in California — you have rights to access, correct, delete, export or restrict the processing of personal data held about you.

In practice we hold almost nothing to act on: without an account, the data that matters to you lives on your device and you can delete it there, or by deleting the app. If you have emailed us and want that correspondence removed, ask and we will delete it.

10. Changes to this policy

If the app starts doing something materially different with data, this page will be updated and the date at the top will change. Significant changes will also be noted in the App Store release notes.
